Should 'This is it'be winner an oscar?

Sony thinks its new Michael Jackson documentary could be a contender for best picture.
Spokesman Steve Elzer said Thursday that the studio will submit "Michael Jackson This Is It" for Academy Awards consideration this year.

It missed the deadline to be considered for a 2009 documentary Oscar, but the film about the late King of Pop preparations for a series of comeback concerts will be eligible in several other categories at the Academy Awards, including sound, film editing, director and best picture.

"This Is It" opened worldwide Wednesday and has already earned $20.1 million at the box office, along with praise from critics and fans who say it restores Jackson reputation as a world-class entertainer.

Director Kenny Ortega, a longtime Jackson collaborator who was overseeing his concert comeback, crafted the nearly two-hour film from more than 100 hours of footage recorded during rehearsals for the London shows, which were to have begun in July. Jackson died June 25 at age 50.

"What we did here was focus on telling a good story and creating a film for the fans really enabling them to understand what Michael Jackson had dreamed for them," Ortega said Wednesday.

He added it was his hope "the audience for this film will grow and that as many people come to see it as possible because I think that it a wonderful story about a brilliant man. ... Awards, Oscars, that all great wishful thinking."

It may be more than wishful, said Steven Gaydos, executive editor of the Hollywood trade paper Variety and a self-described cynic. With the Academy Awards best-picture slate expanded to 10 films this year rather than the traditional five, "This Is It" could find itself among the contenders, he said.

To qualify, the film must complete a seven-day run in Los Angeles County and filmmakers would need to "submit the proper paperwork," said Leslie Unger, spokeswoman for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which puts on the Oscars.

Sony, which paid $60 million for the global film rights, plans to keep "This Is It" in theaters for just over two weeks. Elzer said the studio will submit it for consideration for best picture "and other appropriate categories." He wouldn't specify which ones.

Entering it in the Oscar race this year means "This Is It" cannot be considered in the documentary category next year.
The movie includes plenty of music, but none of it is eligible for Oscar consideration because it wasn't created specifically for the film.

Ortega, a veteran director, producer and choreographer who counts TV "High School Musical" among his credits, could also find himself in contention for a best-director nod, Gaydos said.

"He did a masterful job putting this whole thing together," he said. "It was so powerful and interesting, so creative and well-done, I think he should be considered... Kenny just won over all these critics like me with Michael Jackson that anything interesting could go on with this guy."

The film can't be considered for a Golden Globe. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which puts on the annual ceremony, doesn't permit feature documentaries to enter, said spokesman Michael Russell.

Ortega said an Oscar nod would be a fitting recognition of Jackson last work.

"He deserves one," he said. "Come on people."

Michael Jackson's This Is It,' 'Tinkerbell' DVD, 'Pelotero

'Michael Jackson's This Is It.'

Directed by 'High School Musical's Kenny Ortega and chronicling the months from April through June 2009, the film is drawn from more than one hundred hours of behind-the-scenes footage, featuring Jackson rehearsing a number of his songs for the show. Audiences will be given a privileged and private look at the late, great "King of Pop" as he has never been seen before. In raw and candid detail, 'This Is It' captures the legendary entertainment icon at work as he creates and perfects his final show.

Having seen the film last night, it's an amazing "almost concert " film. Much credit goes to the editors, who put together some of the best footage of Jackson before his death. From start to finish, Jackson is simply the best at what he did - sing and dance. As frail as he appeared, his dancing mechanics were still as good as any of his younger dancers. For all his fans, this is the best raw footage you will see of "The Gloved One." If this was to be his ultimately swan song of his music career, he certainly gave us one hell of a show that will never be forgotten.

The playlist of song in the film includes 'Wanna Be Starting Something,' 'Jam,' 'They Don't Really Care About Us,' 'Human Nature,' 'Smooth Criminal,' 'The Way You Make Me Feel,' 'I Want You Back,' 'Stop The Love You Save,' 'I'll Be There,' 'Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground),' 'I Just Can't Stop Loving You,' 'Thriller,' 'Beat It,' 'Black or White,' 'Earth Song,' 'Billie Jean,' 'Man in the Mirror,' 'Heal the World' and the newly-released track 'This Is It.'

From Walt Disney comes 'Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure' on Blu-ray & DVD! This is the highly anticipated second film in the continuing Disney Fairies Franchise and a captivating story that continues the overwhelmingly popular adventures through breathtaking animation, spectacular music and an all-star cast of voice talents.

In 'The Lost Treasure,' Tinker Bell's greatest adventure yet takes place in Autumn, as the fairies are on the mainland changing the colors of the leaves, tending to pumpkin patches, and helping geese fly south for the winter. The rare Blue Moon will rise, and when its light passes through the magical Fall Scepter that Tinker Bell has been summoned to create, Pixie Hollow's supply of pixie dust will be restored. But when Tinker Bell accidentally puts all of Pixie Hollow in jeopardy, she must venture out across the sea on a secret quest to set things right.

Lionel Messi - 2008/2009 Awarded best player in Spanish league

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has won an award as the best player in last season's Spanish league.

The Argentine international was also awarded a prize as the league's best forward in a ceremony in Madrid late Monday.

Messi scored 23 goals in the Spanish league and nine more in the Champions League as Barcelona won those titles and the Copa del Rey last season.

Real Madrid’s record signing Cristiano Ronaldo leads a list of 30 nominees for this year’s Ballon d’Or that does not include a single player from current world champions Italy.

Former Argentina coach Luis Cesar Menotti says Barcelona star Lionel Messi is struggling under the weight of responsibility for the national team.

Spanish newspaper AS is reporting that Argentina head coach Diego Maradona and his squad’s best player Lionel Messi do not get along anymore and are not talking to each other since…

Messi thanks to Guardiola and teammates For his Confidence

Lionel Messi has thanked Pep Guardiola and the Barcelona squad for keeping his
confidence up after a demoralising few days that saw him criticised in both Argentina and Spain.

The Blaugrana forward was deeply affected by attacks in the media, which questioned his ability, attitude and desire while playing for Argentina in the recent World Cup qualifiers.
That saw his form for Barca dip, and the criticism continued after a lacklustre display against Valencia. However, he bounced back on Sunday against Real Zaragoza.

“I did not have the happiest of times with the national team, nor in the Valencia game, but I always knew I'd bounce back," he was quoted as saying by Barcelona's official website.
"The most important thing is my team-mates - they showed total confidence in me, which makes me feel more comfortable.

"Pep [Guardiola] too. It's important how he makes you feel, both on and off the pitch. He takes particular interest in you as a human being, not just as a player."

Messi is the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or in December, but the diminutive forward is not concerned about winning individual trophies for himself.

Messi said he knew everything would return to normal after the thrashing of Zaragoza to give Barca a three-point cushion at the top of Primera Liga. A superb lob late in the second half capped a fine performance from Messi as a brace from strike partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic and a hattrick from Seydou Keita secured a fantastic victory for the champions.

“We enjoyed that a lot, especially with the outcome in our favour. It took a while, because sometimes we score in the first minute but finally I got a goal,” said Messi. “I’m not tired except emotionally after the things with the national team and bad match in Valencia but I knew it was time to be calm.”

Manchester United struggling to adapt to life forward without Cristiano Ronaldo

That was then. The first name on his team sheet in the days of plenty is, of course, the first on Real Madrid's this term. The absence of Cristiano Ronaldo is the greater part of the problem troubling Ferguson. No shame in that. Antonio Valencia has made a promising start, but is not yet, nor is he likely to be, a like-for-like replacement.

Quite when Nani will turn up is not clear. There is stardust in his feet, for sure. He just needs to connect them with his brain consistently. Time is running out. It might never happen. Only at Tottenham have
United looked a class apart. The five they tucked past Wigan must be discounted since it had more to do with the opposition than them.

Progress in the Champions League, where United top their group, also tells us little. The standard in the group stages points to a two-tier Europe. Only Wolfsburg would raise a smile in the Premier League and United laboured past
them. golden bot>>>

Offensively the champions were dormant until the first goal went in. Liverpool deserved the win because the endeavour was theirs when the game was in the balance. Until Fernando Torres struck, United appeared content not to lose.

The rush to judge either team should be resisted. Points are being shed liberally by the contenders, each of whom have had their dog days. For United this was arguably worse than Burnley, where they at least had multiple shots at goal. Neither of United's outstanding contributors here saw the final whistle. Paul Scholes was sacrificed in the late push for parity. Nemanja Vidic saw red for the third successive Liverpool fixture for one illegal lunge too many as he sought to bind a stretched rearguard.

Vidic had learned one thing from past experience, choosing to leave the marking of Torres to Rio Ferdinand, who was smoked by the Spaniard for the opening goal. United knees knocked whenever Torres touched the ball. He was, said Rafa Benítez, no more than 80 per cent fit and his selection was confirmed shortly before kick-off on the bus to the match. You can put that account down to delirium. Torres was always playing in this match.

Cristiano Ronaldo Removes Paris' Advances

Attention! Attention! One of the hottest soccer players in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo is in Los Angeles! Although he recently underwent surgery on his right ankle, he hit up some of the hot spots in La La Land. Ronaldo went to STK for some din-din and then hit up Villa. Paris Hilton happened to be at Villa, sans Benji Madden last night too.

Paris needs to write another Myspace blog to clear up the new rumors that have started about her. According to spies at Villa, Paris was eyeing our man Ronaldo all night and he wasn’t having any of it.

A source told the Daily Mail: 'Paris was all over him. The moment he arrived, she went over to his private table…At one point; she pushed her chest together and made a point of trying to snuggle up against him.
'But Ronaldo clearly wasn't interested in Paris. He turned his back on her.'

Back to Benji for Paris! Besides Cristiano Ronaldo should be community property. He is too fine to be confined to just one person.

Ronaldo is in town for the Espy Awards, which will take place at the Nokia Theatre this afternoon. He is nominated for Best Male International Athlete.

Ronaldo said :"Messi is favorite for Golden Ball"

Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo thinks Barcelona striker Lionel Messi could succeed him as the best player in Europe by winning the Golden Ball award.

The Portugal winger, who joined Madrid from Manchester United during the offseason, said Tuesday in an interview with France Football magazine that Barcelona players have the best chances to win the prestigious trophy this year.

"Messi is the favorite," Ronaldo said. "Why not him? If he wins it, it will be well deserved."

Six players from Spanish and European champion Barcelona are chasing the Golden Ball, whose list of nominations was released last week and included Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Thierry Henry, Andres Iniesta, Yaya Toure and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ronaldo has also been selected. The winner will be announced on Dec. 1.
"The favorite is a player from Barcelona," Ronaldo said. "To win a trophy like this, you need to have won collective trophies, a league title, the Champions League. That's why many players from Barcelona could win it."

Restricted to players in Europe, the Golden Ball winner is decided by an annual poll of football journalists compiled by the magazine.

Ronaldo also admitted that Barcelona was better than Real Madrid.
"But why? Because they are playing together for several seasons," the Portugal winger said. "Not just for two months like us. We respect Barcelona but let's wait until the end (of the season)."

Britney Spears delate U.S. Circus Tour -- With Lap Dance For Lance Bass!

Britney Spears wrapped up the U.S. leg of her Circus tour on Sunday in true Las Vegas Fashion with a 90-minute set at Mandalay Bay, which was attended by Barry Manilow and Brit's longtime friend, former 'NSYNC member Lance Bass. Spears reportedly gave Bass some special treatment during the show. People reports that Bass was brought onstage during the singer's sexy rendition of "Breathe on Me" — the song during which she usually serenades a male audience member — and she proceeded to give a lap dance to the openly gay singer, who smiled and sang along. Sunday night's show wasn't the only one attended by celebs. On Saturday, Miley Cyrus and Spice Girl Mel B. caught Britney's concert, as Spears wrapped the U.S. tour she began back in March in New Orleans. She is next set to play a string of dates in Australia in November. This week, she'll also be dropping her new single, "3," which will be included on her upcoming Singles Collection, due out November 24. While she was in Vegas, Spears was seen with her sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston, and rumored boyfriend Jason Trawick, shopping for candy at the Mirage's Sugar Factory. "She spent about $3,000 and walked out of the store with 10 bags," a source told People. "She got a bunch of candy and shirts for her kids and got a bunch of the couture lollipops to give to her backup dancers."
